Since the release of my debut CD As I Breathe in August 2000, I’ve had hundreds of reviews and comments on my music. I love every one of them. I thought I’d share some here. You’ll see the big gap between 2002 and 2019. When I became too ill to play and perform my music in 2002 I put my music away. I didn’t know how to share it if I wasn’t able to play. But the world changed. In 2019 I started posting on Facebook and have gained fans around the world even though I’m no longer able to play or perform. I’m gradually releasing my archive of music covering four decades. You can find all of my releases here in my shop. But back to some reviews. From the beginning…

2000-2002

Without Doubt by far the Best Music I have heard in the last 12 Months!

From the first note sometimes you can tell the singer has something Really Special! Ruth’s music has a Special Power of Purity, Tone, Emotional Resonance and an Atmospheric Quality to Spirit you away and hold you in a Protective Bubble of Excellent Happiness ! I liken it to what the Spanish Flamenco Players call ‘Duende!’

I love the fact that Ruth is a ‘Story Teller’ & all her songs have Backstories. I know from her stories she has suffered greatly & what is amazing is that the emotion is turned into positivity, hope and inspiration. It is obvious she has a great Passion for Music & a Generous Giving Spirit.

John Dyhouse: On FB Post Somehow – I would also like to say how I am so glad I found Ruth’s music on Facebook recently. I have found it to be the kind of music that I just want to listen to over and over. There are so many levels of talent on display in every song.

A truly amazing ethereal voice with so much emotion oozing from every syllable, wonderful songs with superb lyrics telling stories which wring the emotions dry. The melodies reflect these qualities and are beautifully accompanied by Ruth herself on either piano or guitar. Simple but sufficient, taking nothing from the overall effect of the stories.

All I want to do is to put on the headphones and get comfortable; turn up the music and turn down the lights and enjoy.

I feel privileged to be able to hear such sublime music, and to quote from a certain song, “Thank you for the music”.

It’s a five song EP of acoustic songs written by Ruth herself. The style of music is folk/indie. The first song Somehow…beautifully played on the guitar, lyrics of not leaving and staying for the here and now and live life somehow. So true the words really love this one. Track 2 Without You…a song of not wanting love but finding love you can’t live without. “Feeling nothing without You” very well put. Track 3 Today I Don’t Care…showcasing Ruth’s brilliant guitar playing skills. I was intrigued by the title, always have liked songs that you can express your true feelings of you just don’t care about a subject or person. This song deals with a day in the life where you just do not care what you are doing and nothing else matters, as long as you’re singing. Loved it when I heard it the first time and as a singer myself it always puts a smile on my face. Track 4 Face Tomorrow…a very personal song for Ruth and dedicated in memory of Helen Bamber. Ruth takes to the piano for this one, starting with a higher vocal, when I first heard this I had to think what made Ruth write this song. Later I read the notes, very touching song. I’ll not say what it’s about I’ll leave you to just put it on yourself and reflect on what you listen to. Stand out song it is, well done I loved it and it touched me. Track 5 Pale Moonlight…the last track Ruth on the piano again for this one, the rhythm of the song complimented by Ruths higher vocal making it a lullaby type song. John Dyhouse: I “Found” Ruth thru Facebook, intrigued I downloaded the free songs and had no difficulty buying this CD as soon as I heard the downloads. My senses were giddy with the wonderful songs and Ruth’s exquisite voice. Emotionally complex, the songs are so relaxing but invigorating and call out to be listened to. I am so glad that I took that initial decision and this CD has a permanent place on my CD player.

John Dyhouse: Absolute magic. I have listenened to this song many times now but seeing the video, not sure if it was the images or the lyrics as they were sung, I felt shivers running up my spine, and tears in my eyes.

As with all of your songs the emotion in the lyrics and in you voice is almost overpowering. Since finding your music, I have come to learn what beauty in music can be. It seems so pure and simple although I am sure that much thought and hard work went into each song to make it seem so.

Although I am still enjoying writing and singing it seems that each song seems to be only another very small step forward – to an end I cannot comprehend ever reaching.

Your amazing piano arpeggios, and vocals so well enunciated and that superb multi-tracked harmony just take me to another place. 2.58 minutes just passes too quickly, and leaves me wnting more. Never a better use for a replay button!

Your lyrics are never direct, so much thought seems to have gone into making them, make the listener work to understand the emotional content. So beautiful.

Finally, love the way the amazingly lively image is allowed to develop over the song. The video is a wonderful all round experience.
